"It describes the despair of a man who feels that the economic system has no place for him, and the support and wise counsel sung in the refrain by Bush."

"Don't Give Up" is actually a Peter Gabriel song that features Kate Bush on backing vocals and not a duet as it is often listed erroneuosly. The story is fictional BUT it is an inspired one that came from the stories of others as interpretted by Peter. I think that it is one of the most inspriational songs I know, given the touching, emotional verses and the soothing chorus. Notably, Peter has worked with Kate previously on "Games Without Frontiers", which i sthe song that first got me interested in his recordings.

I was just thinking about this song the other day and wanting to download it. I believe it's about a person being at the end of their rope and their friend telling them that no matter how dismal things may seem, they must push onward and never stop striving for happiness...and that they are NOT alone no matter how lonely they might feel.
