into the John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007 that will further remove your rights as citizens? The link provided claimed that Bush could call out the Guard in case of emergency, natural or man-made without worrying about the governor. Well, isn't that exactly what he was blamed for after Katrina hit? That he didn't do anything quick enough? So since it is Bush, the article implies that he has taken away our liberties even more. If Hillary was in office, do you think it would be praising her for this increasing her ability to help us?

Good Idea Lynn, here's the entire summary of the 2007 Defense Act.

Interesting reading for all.

Neo Cracker - are you not old enough to remember Katrina and the fact that the governor had the responsibility of calling for the guard, not the president? DUH

Eric K, re-read my question a little closer, you and I both see this the same. This is exactly in response to Katrina but the liberals are once again cutting and twisting it to imply that it is a power grab for Bush. Next time, whether it is Bush or the next president, if the guard isn't called, then the president will have to answer for it because he will have the ultimate authority, unlike Louisiana where Gov.Blanco was MIA.

This is probably in response to the mishandling of hurricane Katrina. It is the responsibility of the Governor of the state to call out the national guard in time of emergency. Of course, this was not done, although President Bush called Governor Blanco and asked her if she wanted to call in the guard. The media, ever Liberal in bias, never mentioned this fact to the American people to score points for Democrats.

It is logical that the president would want to keep such an event from happening again because of the ineptitude of a Governor and Mayor "I was waitin' for the cavalry to come" Nagin.
Are you saying that the Guard should not be available in time of national emergency?

Why would bypassing the governor of Louisiana after Katrina help? It wouldn't.

What does this have to do with Hillary? Nothing. Try again.

I think it's not the proposal itself but the fact that that power will go to Bush, and we all know he's hell-bent on destroying our liberties.
