First, you must respect yourself. No one will respect you unless you have acheived this.

After that, recognize that some will not be okay with who you are. Hopefully they will come around when they see that YOU are okay with who you are.

As for the process of coming out...

Different people use different methods. I simply said it to my family. A friend of mine wrote a detailed letter and read it to his family...

There is no one way to come out. It's an individual thing.

If you are in a family that is against gay folks, I would suggest saying "I am a strong person and I thank you for that. I am gay and even if you are not okay with this, I am."

I wish you well. You will get through it, even if you feel like you won't.

You should try and understand as much as you can before you tell them.
First understand homosexualality is constructed, just like hetrosexuality is constructed.
The Formula For Constructing A Homosexual
This formula can be illustrated in this way: A Predisposition
Toward Homosexuality Plus That First Homosexual Experience
Multiplied By Pleasurable and Positive Homosexual Thoughts
To Which Is Added More Homosexual Experiences Multiplied By More Pleasurable Thoughts Constructs A Homosexual.

The Formula For constructing A Hetrosexual
This formula can be illustrated in this way: A Predisposition
Toward hetrosexuality Plus That First Hetrosexual Experience
Multiplied By Pleasurable and Positive Hetrosexual Thoughts
To Which Is Added More Hetrosexual Experiences Multiplied By
More Pleasurable Thoughts Constructs A Hetrosexual.

You say you may be bi-sexual or a lesbian at this point. I think you are saying you are leaning more towards homosexuality.
it would help if you could recognize what some of your predisposition was to become homosexual,
Because you lived in a hetrosexual family, that was your most likely predisposition for constructing hetrosexuality.
Can you remember the first homosexual moment you had? some people had experiances when they were young children and can not remember their first homosexual experiance, often innoscent. They often come to believe they was born gay. They do not remember.
Did you have an undiagnoised gender nonconformity? This can be a predisposition to constructing homosexuality. Gender nonconformity is where a child can vary from wanting to be the opposite gender they was born to just having characteristics that they have and seem that it belongs to the opposite gender. Some children learn characteristics that cause them to have a gender nonconformity. often children are thought to be homosexual, called names often and that alone could be a predisposition to constructing homosexuality. Not all children that construct homosexuality will have a gender nonconformity. Just wanted you to be as informed as you could be.

Tell them, "Mom, dad, I have good news and bad news. The good news is I'm a conservative. The bad news is I'm gay!"

Only kidding, don't you think they have a small inkling that you're a lesbian?

Why do you have to tell them?
You wouldn't tell them if you are having sex with guys.
Why would you tell them you are having sex with women?
