Please don't say any mean comments. These problems are elementary school problems. Snow is approximately 1/8 as heavy as water. How many inches of snow would it take to weigh as much as 3 1/2 inches of rainfall?
The planet Mercury makes its circuit around the sun in 88 days. Venus takes 225 days to complete its ciruit. Venus's travel time is what percent of Mercury's travel time? Find the answer to the nearest whole percent.

The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second. The sun is 93,000,000 miles from the earth. How many seconds does it take the light of the sun to reach the earth? How many minutes does it take? Write the remainder as a fraction in lowest terms.

Since light travels at 186,000 miles per second, how far does light travel in 1 hour?

Please don't tell me the answer but explain it to me.

1) It should be cubic inches (cu. inch), not inches.

Snow is 1/8 as heavy as water.
That means, 1 cu. inch of rainfall results in 1/8 cu. inch of snow.
So, 3.5 cu. inch of rainfall results in [ 1/8 * 3.5 ] cu. inch of snow
=0.4375 cu. inch of snow
Thus, 0.4375 cu. inches of snow would weigh as much as 3.5 cu. inches of rainfall.

2) I think this would be the best way to explain it to you :-

88 days of Mercury------->225 days of Venus
So, 1 day of Mercury--------> 225/88 days of Venus
So, 100 days of Mercury---------> [(225/88)*100 ] days of Venus
=255.68 days of Venus
~=256 days of Venus
That is, Venus travel time is 256 % of Mercury's travel time.

3) We know that,
Time taken to travel a distance=(Total distance covered)/(Average speed during during the journey)
=93,000,000 miles / !86,000 miles per second
=500 seconds
Hence, light takes 500 seconds (according to the data you provided in question) to reach the earth. In minutes, this time would be, (500/60) minutes = 8 1/3 minutes.

4) This is similar to the 3rd one, but still I'll solve it for ya :-

We know that,
Distance travelled=(Average speed during the journey) * (Time taken to cover the journey)
= 186,000 miles per second * 1hour
= 186,000 miles per second * 60 mins.
= 186,000 miles per second * (60*60 seconds)
= (186,000 * 3600 ) miles
= 669,600,000 miles

1/8= 0.125 multiply this by 100 and that = 12.5% of the rainwater. So, multiply 12.5 times 3.5 you get 43.75 inches of snow to weigh as much as 3.5 inches of rainfall. ( divide 1 by 8 to 0.125 )

Divide Venus time, 225 days by Mercury time, 88 days this is 2.55. Multiply by 100 = 255%. The other way, Mercury's travel time is 39%, by reversing the division and multiplying by 100.

Divide 93,000,000 by 186,000 you get 500 seconds
divide 500 seconds by 60 minutes = 8 and 1/3 minutes.

You have 60 seconds in one minute and 60 minutes in one hour, so you figure this last one.
