Alligators mate in the water. The female selects a suitable sunny sand bank above the flood watr level that has good drainage and cover near by. Unless disturbed, she will use the same nest site for the rest of her life. Usually at night she will dig a hole and lays 16-80 white hard-shelled eggs. The sex of the hatchlings is dependent of the temperature of the nest hole. Female alligators develop at a temperature of 26 - 30 degrees and males at 31 - 34 degrees celcius. About 90 days after bein layed, the hatchlings will give a high pitch cheeping noise. The mother will then carefully open the nest and take the hatchlings in her mouth to the water. The babies are a perfect miniature copy of the parents. The hatchlings will remain in a "creche" area for 6 -8 weeks. They have many enemies and on average only one alligator out of a nest of fifty will survive.

As described, the female builds a mound of vegetation, (basically a compost heap), digs a hole in the center and deposits her eggs. The number and size (a little bigger than an extra large chicken egg to larger than a turkey egg) of these eggs will vary depending on the size of the mother. -Some- females will guard this nest until the eggs hatch and help the babies to the water.

Hatchling alligators range from 6 to 11 inches long (again, depending on the size of the egg, and thus, the size of the mother) and are black with yellow crossbands.

These babies are completely able to take care of themselves as far as feeding goes. They are prey for many, many, many other animals. Otters, raccoons, opossums, skunks, hawks, owls, osprey, herons, egrets, snapping turtles, even large bass will eat hatchling alligators.

It is estimated that only 1 in 100 alligators make it to 4 feet long. And only about 1 in 50 of those make it to adult sizes.

alligators lay eggs and the eggs are incubated in nest the mother gator made. The eggs develop much like a chickens egg and when they are ready, they hatch out. The mother stays near and when she hears their chirps or squeaks, she opens the nest and helps the baby gators to the water. The babies stay near the mother for protection until they are able to fend for themselves.

Alligators lay eggs and bury them ( like turtles ) the female gaurds them until they hatch and then watches over them for a little while ( not long though ) the babies look just like the adults...only very small ( they are about 6 inches I believe )

the mother builds a nest, pits it out, drops her eggs (i belive they can have up to 100+ but I could be wrong!), piles leaves and basicly "compost heap" over it to keep it warm and moist (not to moist though) and GUARDS it. She does not leave except for rare occasions when there is no other choice.

What does it look like for a project, depends on the project, is it an essay? a science project? if the last make a model of the mother out of say starfoam, then create the nest w/pit, then the nest covered up, then the mother standing guard not to far (but not very close to) a body of water.

good luck, need more info for anything else

Alligators don't give live birth, if that's what you're trying to ask. They lay eggs. All living creatures are born "alive".
