I'm 17 today and it just doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me! 16 I could start driving, 18 I will be an adult...what is good about being 17? Besides being able to get into rated R movies...

well, hahah! i would say that you enjoy the seemingly carefree, nonchatant life of being 17. Since age of 17 is a transition between 16 and 18, it is the only year that would be important to the rest fo your life. That is, work hard in school, honey. Go, go, go, you can do it. It will be your 2nd semester of Junior and 1st semester of Senior. The college applications will be your ultimate real "present" of your 17. hahah!

I read this and, initially, wanted to say that you're one year closer to the final equanimity that divides our clamor from finer quiet.
But, then I remembered that when I was 17, I bought records (yep, back in the day's of legal incandescent bulbs & such) of Beethoven's Tempest, Mozart's 40th symphony, Brahm's, Chopin and on and on.
That mall, barely a stones throw from my high school, has long since closed down. Yet, I can still play most of those pieces by ear. Never bought the music.
See? Seventeen is an age of the mind. You'll wake up in desperate need for love. You'll feel poetry rather than just read or understand it. You'll "know" Edgar Allen Poe and Henry David Thoreau. Shakespeare's Sonnets, at probably the only time in your life, will melt your heart.
Be Seventeen, Love.
Embrace it.
Hold on and journal daily about it forever and ever!

Its the last year that you are considered a kid. The last year that you can do things without being held responsible. Things you do at 17 that might be wrong-people will brush off as being he/she is just a kid. At 18 it will be "That damn punk needs to straighten up and get a job!"
Have fun this year, the party is just about over. being an adult sounds great but after the new is gone it kinda sucks! You will beg for high school back.

CRIME dose pay when your under age i got aressted for a stollen 4 weller and if i was older at the time i could of went to jail 4 a long time but i went to a boys camp played hocky (and was great at it ) for the only time in my life got some a$$ and smoked in school and didnt care cause i was out 3 days after i turnd 18 all in all i had a great time

If you only see benefit in an age based on what new privileges you have, you're going be be bummed between 21 and 35 (the year you can run for president and are no longer eligible for the draft if you're male). Then you'll be REALLY bummed from 35 to death.
You're young and you should have a long wonderful life ahead of you. Remember that life is about the journey, not about destinations. Enjoy your 17th year, you only get one! :)

you're only a year away from being 18 and 4 years away from being 21 (party time). Just have fun with life, and enjoy being young while you still can because before you know it you'll be saying whats so great about being 24....32....45

You are alive and beautiful and a wonderful creation. Get busy doing something to legitimize all that you are! Read to some children or volunteer at a shelter. Learn an instrument. Appreciate life in these United States (I assume you live here) as opposed to Bagdad or Darfur.

well if I could go back to 17 again. I couldn't wait till it passed and i was 18. well now the years have passed so fast. I want to be 17 again. just enjoy it, it won't last long.

enjoy it, cause one day when your 2 babies are in the back of the car crying and youre 35 yrs old and 100 pounds overweight and its friday, YOU are going to want to sell your left tit for 10 minutes of 17 again. ENJOY your youth, YOU never get it back

17 is an awesome age. You're almost an adult but you can still play minor. You can weasel out of contracts instantly.
