The supposed "bombs" (actually boxes with a light up picture of a cartoon character giving the middle finger) were in place in Boston and in 9 other major cities for TWO weeks before anyone notified the police. I find the hoax itself very innocent. What I don't find comforting is that these guys were able to place boxes on our bridges and roadways without any municipal agencies being aware of them. In my opinion, maybe these guys should be thanked for teaching us a lesson in that we are more vulnerable then we would like to think and we need to look into different means of limiting access to our major causeways and also how to maintain survalliance on them. What do you think about what happened?

The two weeks before anyone notifies the authorities shows our first problem. Are we that unobservant? Or, are we that lazy? Maybe the people noticing them didn't believe they were life threatening. I can't believe most people would inspect a suspicious device and not notify someone about them.

As far as "municipal agencies" being aware of them, what can I say. A lot of agencies do more training about confronting someone without creating the situation that permits a lawsuit. Hence, the authorities are don't trained for the real problems.

Our weakest link is our freedom. American citizens will not tolerate a camera on every structure. Here, they have already began gripping about the traffic light the city council approved for installation.

I think the only reason the authorities are making such a big deal over this is that it made them look like fools, for the very reason you said and also because they couldnt tell the difference between a lite-brite toy and a bomb.
