I think the difficulty of a class lies solely with the professor and whether or not you are interested in the topic.

Do some research into the professors teaching the classes. See if anyone you know has taken either one and ask what they thought. And look over the reading list. If one list looks more interesting to you, take it.

And if you're not interested in Shakespeare and it is not a requirement for your major, don't take either.

I've never taken either course, but it might be more logical to start with the early plays. Some of the later plays may have been influenced by his early work, and having that background knowledge could make it easier to understand.

id say later, because people get weird and crazy as they get older. especially writers.
