I live in Illinois. I got a copy of my landlords tax bill (he gave it to me as proof he owned building). I just checked and he hasn't paid his property taxes and has been delinquent since 2005. If I buy the delinquent taxes, would I still have to pay him rent??

I don't think the 1st person understood. I don't own the property now. In my county, when you buy delinquent taxes......the person has a certain amount of time to pay, what I was asking is.....WOULD I HAVE TO PAY THE LANDLORD RENT....not WOULD I HAVE TO PAY THE GOVERMENT TAXES> I already know that I would have to. I'm asking would I have to pay the landlord rent, even though I hold the certificate for the property taxes????

tax lein will be on your property and you will not be able to avoid this as you will assume this debt on closing..if you are closing this will come out..good luck..you are not going to beat the government out of their money. they could sell the property for back taxes if they are in arrears.

You are still obligated to pay rent for the duration of your lease, regardless of whether you own the tax certificate on his property. If you try to collect the taxes and he doesn't pay, you could hire a lawyer and foreclose on him, but that is an ifffy proposition b/c he probably has other debts as well and could declare bankruptcy. If you have been watching those informercials about getting a house for $400 through tax sales, you should know they are rather misleading.

YES: The two contracts are separate, you can not fail to pay the rent and gain. If you buy the tax burden and legally leave the property, the land lord still have to pay the taxes. If the land lord does not pay the taxes, you will own a new building.

We should send all our jobs to China where the people get $2.50 an hour for labor and then we bail the company out because some Communist was elected as President then and now! Obama is already guilty of 5 counts of treason and refused to address them or the officer that brought these charges. Bill Clinton also committed treason and was never charged! He gave our missile guidance systems to China. One must wake up. Giving things to the Chinese Government is not supporting the Chinese people! The people know what it is like and it looks like ignorant Americans will soon find out that same reality. The Chinese people are not the Chinese Government. The government there loved Bill Clinton and loves Obama. The people there want Obama dead!!! Earl

omg! That is his problem not your just pay your rent on time and when the town seizes his property and they sell it on the auction block, your new landlord will take over. Why would you want to pay his taxes...
