Go get "The Eight" by Katharine Neville. Fantastic book and I loved it as much as I loved Angels and Demons.

The Rule of Four, by Ian Caldwell wasn't too bad.
I know I have a book called Messiah Code by Michael Cordy that I haven't read yet (or maybe I did - it was originally titled The Miracle Strain I have learned.)
About the Grail book - has excellent reviews. I sell on-line and have had it twice; both times it sold pretty quick.
Here are a few others I saw recommended by readers of similar books: Dark Passage, by Junius Podrug, The Vatican Knights by Richard L. Jones and anything from Steve Berry and Vince Flynn, and books by John Case.

Since it IS just fiction, and your smart enough to understand that concept throughout reading the books, I don't think its wong to read them. (btw Im Christian too) As to your friend saying magic is stupid, (and the Bible does say it's not to be messed with- mostly Revelation) both authors of Lord of The Rings as well as The Chronicles of Narnia were Christians, and their books involve magic/fantasy. I see her point though- while The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons are both good literature, you could spend your time reading others books that are more wholesome. I suggest the Left Behind Series, both the kids' and adults' version's are amazing! ;)

"Holy Blood, Holy Grail" by Richard Leigh. Not fiction, but a good companion to Da Vinci Code.
For good alternative history fiction, Harry Turtledove, all the way.
