The old movies are so much better than today's movies because they didn't use a certain four-letter word over and over as if it were a crutch for any movie situation. The screenwriters actually knew how to write back in the day and today's screenwriters rely on "Action-Say that word"--"Romance-Say that word"--"Tragedy-Say that word"--"Humor-Say that word". It's a sad situation.

The ratio of old movies that are good is higher than new movies that are good. A lot of today's movies are more concerned with advertising and consumerism. It's really destroying the movie-going experience. That's not to say all new movies aren't good. A lot of them are, but the big "blockbusters" aren't what they used to be, in general. I can't think of the last REALLY GOOD movie to come out.
"Airplane" vs. "Epic Movie"
"The Godfather" vs. "Smoking Aces"

Some yes. Like just about anything with Paul Newman, Al Pacino, Humphrey Bogart or Elizabeth Taylor. More intelligent conversations and less blood.

New movies are just like old movies, except they're remakes with better graphics and special effects, and the stars, the dialog and the promos are 100% synthetic.
You won't see a Casablanca or a Metropolis or a Wizard of Oz made in the rest of our lifetimes.
(American Astronaut, Bladerunner, Naked Lunch and Buckaroo Banzai are all classics, but they're few and far between....Gimme something fresh, or a least give me Looney Tunes...)

For the most part the older movies (generaly meaning pre 80's for me!) are better. Even the otherwise worthwhile movies today contain too much profanity, sex, and violence. This IMHO can ruin a film that has a good plot and acting.

No, There has always been a low good/bad ratio in hollywood. But all the ones that were complete crap are forgotten and your left with just the classics on store shelves.

No. You mean the movies of Classical Hollywood? Hollywood didn't have digital film techniques or the wonderful computer applications we have today.

There are very good movies out there, but they are often sometimes harder to find. I suggest attending film festivals.
