You should. Dryer lint catches fire pretty easily.
The easiest way to do this is from the outside. Take the vent cover off the vent, and shove a shop-vac in there. Don't reach in with your hands because there may exposed screws. Don't use a brush unless you detach the vent from the dryer. You will end up pushing the lint back into the dryer.

Yes, definately. Not only will in improve the efficiency of your dryer, it will lower your chances of fire that many dryers produce. Thats also why it is very important to keep your lint tray clean after every use. Hope this helps. Try using a long bristle brush or maybe an extended wooly duster.

You can't always do the vent cover bit. I disconnected duct from the drier, tied a fair sized rag to a long piece of strong twine, wadded up all but the end of the twine inside the duct, and put the duct back on. Then turned on the drier. It blew the rag out to the discharge end, along with a gob of lint.

Yes clean it at least once a year...Just did mine and if you do laundry more than 2 times a week then your vent will get a very heavy build up... Just to let you know I am a young 40 years young and I changed it myself. IT WILL CUT YOUR DRYING TIME IN HALF...

it is a good idea to do this once a year. then you can check the condition of the hose while you are at it. if you have aluminum pipe, you can do it every other year since it is smoother and will clog less often. good luck.
