...such as "Focus on Family" who criticized Mary Cheney for having a child?

Cheney said he was “delighted I’m about to have a sixth grandchild” during the interview with a cable news network. But asked about his reaction to a statement by Focus on the Family, the organization led by James Dobson, Cheney stared down his questioner, CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

“Mary Cheney’s pregnancy raises the question of what’s best for children. Just because it’s possible to conceive a child outside of the relationship of a married mother and father doesn’t mean it’s best for the child,” Blitzer read, QUOTING the organization.

Cheney didn't condone Dobson's comments, refusing to respond to them. In fact, all he was concerned about was his own situation - "delighted I’m about to have a sixth grandchild", while not even mentioning the joy that her daughter will surely experience with her FIRST child. Just an observation...

Mary Cheney has written a book about herself being a lesbian, about her work with her father, about his campaigns for the vice-presidency's office, etc. Because she has written about her own life and put "herself" out there, she is fair game for media questions! Sorry, but what's fair is fair.

Wolf Blitzer was in no way out of line, the Vice-President was for thinking he was "above questioning." Sorry, Mary Cheney opened herself up to being questioned by performing services FOR her father and the Republican Party, by claiming herself as a gay woman in a happy long-term commitment and by writing a book about it. Strike one, Strike two, Strike three, she's fair game.

The answer was just a way to stir conservative support without having to insult his daughter. If he supported his daughter, he would be a good father (which I think he is even if he is a very dislikable guy, to put it mildly) but social conservatives (who are the only supporters he really has left) would hate him, and if he came out against her pregnancy, he would be an absolutely terrible parent. Thus, he dodged the question, as almost any other politician in the same predicament (though probably conservative due to the type of situation) would do.

I don't really think he was out of line to ask the question. I do think he shouldn't have been so persistent when Cheney said he didn't want to speak about it. Then he (wolf blitzer) made himself look like a total tool when he tried to backtrack, which he shouldn't have done, it was kind of sad to watch. That's the whole point of journalism, to ask the tough questions. SO no, not out of line, at the worst it was just kind of tacky.

No, he asked a valid question among many others that Cheney was too cocky and arrogant to answer. Cheney is one of the biggest hypocrites on this planet, he claims to support his daughter yet he is against her right to marry. His dour, pinched, stick-up-his-butt face makes me want to puke everytime I see it.

I respect Cheney for his support of his daughter. It's the only thing I respect about him.
