I do not use any kind of illegal drugs, but I am required to take a drug test for a major career change for a very large company. Is there any foods or legal medications (nyquil, ephedra, etc) that will trigger 'false positive' test results? Also, I am not sure which drugs they will be testing for. I'm asking this because I am fearful if I come up with a 'positive' result, they will automatically assume that I use illegal drugs. Thanks in advance.

Hopefully the folks doing the testing will have a list of foods/medications that would cause false positives and would give you a chance to explain a positive result. It would be pretty foolish for a company to fire you after a positive opium test without first determining if it may have come from poppy seeds. Most companies are going to do some extra legwork before losing a quality employee. Quality employees don't grow on trees ...

Hopefully the "major career change" is a promotion. If so, then congrats!

Poppy Seed Muffins do not cause a positive drug result, unless you're eating hundreds of them a day. There are many many legal script drugs that can show a positive on a drug screen. If this happens, you employer will contact you and your dr to confirm the prescription.
A positive drug result doesn't always mean termination, they will contact you and let you know what's going on before they decide to let you go.

Too much poppy seed muffins or poppy seed buns could make you get a false positive opium test. However, the quantities in your blood would very likely to be way smaller than someone who uses/abuses, the drug, opium. You'd probably get retested in order for our employers to ascertain you're not a user. You have nothing to worry about if you are not using drugs illegally or not using for recreational purposes.

Poppy seeds SURE SHOWED on MY TEST when I went and had one done. I eat A LOT of something called both "Pooch-ka-la or Babolki" (I know they are spelled incorrectly) but it is a recipe handed down from my Great Grandmother and it is a German Recipe. Basically, it is: Boiled bread balls and then once they are done, you pour poppy seed and honey over them. I eat A LOT of this since it is a "Soft food" and something I can easily chew since I have no teeth. Recently, my doctor gave me a blood and urine test to find out what caused all my teeth to break off at the gumline, and he told me: You tested positive for drugs. I can no longer see you. I told him I have NEVER done a drug in my life. Of course, he didnt want to hear it, and wanted to sign me up for rehab. I went to another lab and paid out of my own pocket to have another test done. I explained to the lab tech why I wanted one. She started asking me a bunch of questions as to things I eat and medications I DO take. Once I said poppy seed. She told me NOT to eat any for a few days and come back, which I did and that time, my test was CLEAN.
