We have a place back home where I am from that collect the rent for the home owner. acting as the landlord. They took a peice of it for doing it, and also oversaw the hiring and work if the place needed upkeep. What are these places called? For example, I buy a house but then move to ....California, thousands of miles away, but still want to keep the property, renting it out in my absence just I had done when i was there. In steps XYZ business to take care of it for me. What is this service called?

They're called Property Management companies. For residential property, most larger real estate firms have a management division. All who serve your area should be able to mail fee schedules and a list of services. Having someone near the property and on standby 24/7 for emergencies if you're so far away is a good idea. The best way to find a property manager is through personal referral by a satisfied landlord or an agent you trust.

You might also be interested to know that many localities and insurers take a different view of managed versus unmanaged property these days what with liability, mold, lead paint, and so on being fertile ground for litigation.

I don't know what it's called, but many real estate agents could direct u to such agencies. Also, many experienced real estate agents or property managers could do that service for you for a monthly fee.

you want a property management company. a lot of realtors are connected with this type of operation.
