Hail Eris!
4! - 1 is 23. that's number of ways you can rearrange 4 elements, not counting the original arrangement.
Yeah, I know it's all in your head, you can take numbers and play with them and make them come out to just about anything. But it's fun, and it's a good mental exercise to keep the ol' brain cells in shape.

Today is 2/2/07, yesterday was 2/1/07, a year ago three weeks (21 days) ago was 1/12/06, 2*2=4 + 7 = 11, 2-1 = 1 * 7 factorial = 5040,
1*12 = 12 / 6 = 2
5040/ 7 = 720 * 2 = 1440
1+4+4+0 = 9
1440 / 9 = 160
1 and a zero make 10
6 and a zero make 60
60 / 10 = 6
6 * (6+0) = 36
3+6 = 9
36 / 9 = 4
36 - 9 = 27
27 - 4 = 23
Holy crap you're right.

It is human nature to find meaning in the otherwise meaningless. In other words, to see patterns whenre they just don't exist. Take the example of those Ghost Hunters, they see ghostly patterns on the water stains of the wallpaper. Others see the image of Elvis in the mustard stain on their T-Shirts.
Also, notice how you are changing the rule to arrive at a desired conclusion. You do not have one set rule that applies in all cases and arrives at the same result, or do you?
From what you describe above the rule would be:
subtract [month_number] from [Day_Number] then subtract [2_Digit_Year_Number] = 23
Suppose it is Christmas day 1945, then :
(25 - 12)= (13-45)= (-32),
Last New Year's Day 1/1/06
(1-1)=(0-6)= -6
Even Today 2/2/07
(2-2)= (0-7)= -7
so your pattern / rule is flawed and you are seeing meaning in the meaningless.

Everything equals 23 because you find ways to make it so. In reality, all of this is in your head.

Michael Jordon's jersey number when he played for the Bulls. That right there is enough reason for the universe to revolve around it.
