For the most part, I've never really known anything about professional soccer, and I certainly haven't cared. Even we laugh at ourselves sometimes because we seem to be just about the only country in the world that isn't obsessed with soccer. Even we don't know why! Anyway, Beckham is just about the only player (other than Pele) who is almost a household name here. Most people in the U.S. couldn't name anyone else. And we mostly know him from the tabloids. It's generated a lot of talk, but mostly because he's getting a $250 million dollar paycheck, which seems like a ludicrous amount of money to pay someone to play a sport that Americans aren't even interested in. That might just be the brilliance of it, though. It's aroused people's curiosity. Anyway, I think there will probably be a lot more people watching once he gets here, (again, out of curiosity) but he will have to give us a reason to KEEP watching, or we're just going to wind up losing interest very quickly. Anyway, I wish him luck. He's going to be under a lot of pressure to prove his worth as a player, and not just a pretty face for TV commercials.

Ha! Great question.
Personally, I am NOT EVEN SLIGHTLY excited about Beckham playing soccer (football) in the U.S.A.
Maybe if he wasn't being paid so much I might at least "not care" but I actually am a bit sickened by the situation. I enjoy watching my son play youth soccer. I RARELY watch pro soccer on tv and might just watch it even LESS because of Beckham. Now, if Posh were playing, that'd be a different story!
I predict he'll come back home to the U.K. next year for lack of excitement on the field...

Why for only those in USA? Shouldn't it be for soccer fans in general or just for anyone with an opinion??
It is a www not a uww!!!!!
Anyway, I'm interested to see if he improves the profile and raises the numbers of "bums on seats" in North America.
However, without a doubt he has amazing skills but he is at the end of his career. If people are expecting him to be what they have heard (hipe) about him they will be disappointed as last year he finished on the bench for Real Madrid. I'm afraid as with all good things it must come to an end. :(

i never cared much for pro american soccer except for the olympics (but that's not really pro) BUT when I heard beckham was coming here and they were paying him all that money -- i was sort of more interested in it. isn't he all old and worn out to be playing soccer ? it will be interesting to see what happens. i predict he'll get injured and have to sit out -- i don't wish that on him -- but that's the feeling i have for some reason.

I don't care because they will just be another braindead couple coming out of California. I heard they are thinking of a reality show about the move to this country...just what we need, more crap to watch. If he would just focus on soccer, then fine, but to push their way into stardom is stupid. I will pay no attention to them.

I'm in Canada. My husband is fairly excited about it (althought he pretends not to be). I know that the Toronto venue is sold out now all because when the matches come to Toronto, Canadians will be able to see Beckham play. It's good for football (soccer) here.

I could care less and I certainly don't think he's worth over 200 million dollars - which is what I read he will be paid. He's a human and could fall and break his leg or tear a tendon and that would be that!
