Karen—
Sorry to hear that they are doing this to you.
COMPLAIN!!
Or find another repair facility.
This is what I do for a living, and when this sort of thing happens, I get painted with the same brush as the slob.
As a matter of practice and customer care, I keep a bottle of spray cleaner and a bit of Turtle Wax on my toolbox and the LAST thing I do with the customer's car is clean out any evidence of my having been there.
The CSI's would have a hard time tracking me there.
That said, in the last 40-plus years, I have failed this, and always regret it.
Complain to the management. It doesn't matter that they did a fabulous job on your car, and maybe didn't even charge you, if when you get into the car, you ruin your clothes and must clean the grease and grime from the steering wheel just to get home!!
Make it clear to the management that this sort of thing is absolutely unacceptable and certainly not professional.
Paper floor mats and a decent wipe down don't cost that much time or effort.
One of the likely EXCUSES you might get is that they don't get paid for clean-up, and that a certain minimum level of residue is to be expected. After all, where the tech is working is grimy. BULL!!
If it doesn't pay to clean up, how about not getting paid at all anymore.Take your business to a more considerate and professional facility!!
I'll give back the soapbox now.

Happy Motoring

There is no excuse for that. Good mechanics use paper mats across fenders and the hood area to avoid leaving greasy prints, and should never leave a footprint, fingerprints or anything else on the inside of your car. As the previous answerer said, find another mechanic or repair shop.

That shop has poor customer service. They would stop doing that if they get submitted bills for cleaning cars and that is subtracted off the repair bill. But you have already paid them havn't you.? All you can do is remark " I am not telling my friends to come here, to get their cars fixed as the other shop down the road doesn't get the car dirty inside."
It doesn't take any more time for the mechanic to toss in a seat cover before he plops his butt down in a clean car.
They need business, and a negative remark such as yours will wake them up to better practices for future survival.

Because the mechanic(s) are too lazy to wash their hands or to cover your car interior with protective material. Seek out a different mechanic. Poor care of your cars interior is a sign that they are sloppy workers and this could carry over to the repair work causing it to be shoddy also.

Complain to the shop owner. He may have a lazy mechanic. A good shop will be certain to keep a clean vehicle. Complain once, look for improvment, if it happens again, let them know why you are not returning.

Take it to another shop, most good mechanics take pride in their work, also includes appearance and clean work ethics.
