I need to find something for my mom for her birthday, and i know she wants a set of pots and pans because she is constantly hinting at it. My problem is that there are so many things to choose from, plus there are all these different types of pots and pans such as stainless steel, cast iron etc. can someone tell me which ones are the best or at least better and why they think so.

This is a tough one! Every one likes something different, and there is nothing worse than getting an expensive pan that you hate. I got a 200$ calphalon pan for wedding gift... Hated it!!
Giver her a gift certificate to a place like Bed bath and Beyond so she can pick out what she wants, then take her out for lunch, and take her there to buy the pans.. If she is like my mom she would let the cert expire before she got the pans!!!
BBB is great cuz the sometimes have coupons for 20% off purchase, and a good set of pans can cost a few hundred bucks. You might even try a store like Foleys, dillards, May Co.. the will have great sales at times too.

What does Mom cook with now? Does she use a lot of heat, how about what she likes to cook. Most major brands offer a basic set for less than 100 and you just love them and learn to cook with them. Hey! It's the thought right? Get a gift receipt and if she isn't thrilled you can go back together and pick something else.

I only use T-Fal, they are affordable, but good quality. I'm not a chef, just a regular mom.
