I go to a catholic school, and my dad thinks that I'm supposed to dress into one of those suits that take a week to get tailored, even though the admission for one student was $7.50. For a private school, what would be the appropriate attire for a homecoming dance? Unless I know, my dad will keep fussing at me.

Usually a homecoming dance is a semi-formal affair and yes, the boys usually wear a nice suit and the girls usually go out and buy a nice dress...usually too nice! If you do have a date, you should also buy her a corsage...go with a wrist corsage though, so that she doesn't have to hold it all night! you should get yourself a flower to pin to yourself too!
I would check with your date or with the school personnel if you are not sure...things might have changed over the years!

I would listen to your dad. Go to the tux rental place and ask the salesperson if other guys from your school have rented. If so, he will help you know what is appropriate.
If I were you, I would go for a classic suit look, not so froofy, like a real tux. Understated and classy.
I am a huge thrift store shopper and I have seen teens and their dads or moms in there buying suits. You can get a slick, worn once or twice high dollar suit for 15 or 20 bucks you just have to be patient and try on a lot!!
Have Fun!!

If you have a date, you should be dressed up as much as she is. If she went and bought a fancy formal dress you should rent/borrow a tuxedo. Especially if she is homecoming queen or you are homecoming king. A nice suit would work if you don't have a date or if she is wearing a more simple/less formal dress.

I would wear nice slacks and a dressy shirt. You dont need a whole tailored suit. If its a smaller school and private. Or being held at the school there is no need to get over dressed. Ask what your date will be wearing and go from there.

i went to a catholic school and all of our dances there were no jeans allowed. i think if you wear a nice pair of pants with a nice shirt and tie that would be more than enough. you could probably even get by with wearing khaki pants and a polo shirt. no tennis shoes though.
i don't think you need a fancy expensive suit. tell your dad that you are saving him money -- but if it makes him feel better have him give you the cash anyways.

I go to a public school, so it all really depends on your specific school and the fancyness of your homecoming. I'd say the best bet is something like a dress shirt (collared, buttons) and khakis.
I'd ask an older student who has been to HC at your school, though. They'd know best.

You don't have to order from this site, but here's a visual aid:

Semi-formal silky dress shirts with matching ties. And for pants, I suggest either black dress pants or khakis. Shoes, depending on the colors you've chosen for the rest of your outfit, either brown or black dress shoes. If you wear a belt, they must be the same color as your shoes..please..
Dress nice because it is a classy event in highschool, but keep in mind..it's highschool, and it's homecoming. Save the tux for prom.
