I recently got three guppies and I've had them for a week now. Tonight, in one of the smaller guppies I noticed that it was down at the bottom of the tank and just stayed there. I put some food in the tank and it came up, but right after it went back down. I'm pretty sure it's sick, but I want to make sure. Help?

It's difficult to say without more details, but if the tank was new when you added the guppies it may be the first to show signs of a rising ammonia level in the tank. Changing 25% of the water would help, but only short term. You will need to invest in an ammonia test kit and stay on top of the ammonia level until the tank "cycles". At that point the ammonia levels will drop to 0 and the nitrite will rise. Not to worry it will fall as well very soon. During this time you will have to change water whenever the test says the level is dangerous, but only weekly after that.

Now, assuming that is not the problem, my first guess would be that the fish in quesiton is a female and is being harrassed by potential mates.

One of those will be the case 90% of the time in your situation. there is an outside chance it's something else but likely it's one of these two things.

Best of luck with them!

Because all your fish are not doing this, it isn't water quality. Ammonia levels. We have no way of knowing how old a fish is when we buy it. There are many fish who experience difficulty adapting to the tank they are placed in. Before you go thru all the rig-a-marol especially when no other fish are doing the same, Let your fish be for a couple of days. If it starts listing to one side or another it could be something other than just stress. However stress leads to ich in some cases. If your fish is surfacing every now and then, give them time to adapt.

It is possible that the guppy is sick. Look for signs of fungus on the fins and the sides of the fish. If you have a PH test kit, use it to make sure the PH of the water is where it should be. Dont forget to check the water temperature, and finally the aeration.
Good luck.

Well you can go to the 'so called' snake eye drake's site. It is www.freewebs.com/ben-leong.I know him and he's a real weird dude.According to the dude's site I presume it's too cold for them or they are just scared of the water current! Hey I also like guppies and they are sooo cool!
