I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I really want to know.

I don't know what the point for being a goth is. It's just that at my school, I'm surrounded by 'goths' and I just wanted to know why they act the way they do. I've never done anything to offend them and I've always been nice to them during group projects, but they give me the evil eye. God forbid if I wear white!

i think in the 80's it was a way of rebelling. a physical way of representing ones outcast stature... since it was pretty much the "dweebs" the "preps" and the "out castes" today we have a much better range of stereotypes besides "prep" to chose from and still be "in". "emo" is a twofold term, being at once the stereotypical image of a troubled teen, and a style. it is similar to goth, but represents a more emotional, depressed teen, verses, angry outcaste teen that goth represents. it gets rather confusing when their are kids just mimicking the look of goth, or emo without the attitude, or they may even imitate the attitude. to confuse it more, ur kid doesnt have to be wearing black and writing depressed poetry to be depressed and emotional.
so, to answer ur question, being goth was a way of teenage rebellion, but if anyone defines themselves as goth nowadays, they are probably actually emo.
u'll have to get to know someone tho, to see if the way the dress reflects the way they feel inside..or just their sense of style. hope this helps!! haha

I'm not offended- I enjoy goth but I am not a goth. Goth is a classification that is very easily miscontrued as attitude or wearing black clothes, piercings, tats, etc. - it's a package, the best way I can explain. Black eyeliner, poufy hair- I think you get the message. I don't believe there is a point to it, it is kind of like a comfortable pair of shoes, if that makes sense to you.
Hope this helps clear things up.

Being a gothic person or a "goth" isn't just about music or clothes or a certain color or hairstyle. A true goth is someone who has a diferent viewpoint about life and death. The gothic time period in European history dealt with the grim realities of life and people dealt with those honestly. A true gothic person doesn't celebrate death as the overall end but rather takes a look at death as a look at the importance of it and that life and death are or should be equal in their celebration.

generally I in basic terms answer tech questions, yet i will supply this a shot, seeing as how i develop into as quickly as married to a girl with gothic inclinations. the factor of being goth, to place it basically, is basically to be a guy or woman and stand pleased with something of the team. even whether that is in a uniform style. some human beings as develop into goth basically for marvel cost. they prefer the attention they receive from wearing white makeup, black eyeliner, and black nail polish. some do exactly it for interest. They sense as though society has exceeded over them, and so as that they take drastic steps (referring returned to the makeup) to charm to interest to themselves. i'm hoping this solutions your question.

'Goth' is a really big label. I can't tell you because I don't know what you perceive to be 'Goth'.

If I could give some general advice, I would say: try to avoid using stereo-types. People like different things and I don't think people should be questioned for why they like particular things... It can be pretty offensive.

You know, I really have no idea whatsoever.
The point of being a goth could be just expressing your dark side. I don't know.

The Humanity... you belong to a group, instead of being lonely and doing drugs.
