Most people in entry level jobs (at least from just starting out and going throught training) are 4-5 years younger then me. I desired to start years earlier but I couldn't due to some personal reasons. I know really it's never to late to begin your career but I just feel stressed and down over it. I feel those 4 years (on average) were wasted. I shouldn't (but I do) compare myself to others? Has anyone ever felt this way? Has anyone compared themselves to others? Any advice?

Sounds like you got lucky… just getting a job period is something to be thrilled about… you must have something the employers like or you would not have been given this opportunity… the age thing is only in your head… all ages work these days….

All you have to do is do your job well, your employers don’t care about age… they hired you and it is their opinions that matter… they know a few extra years has given you some experience in something… look for the good you got out of it. whatever it was you went through it to learn some sort of lesson... This way the lesson is not wasted… get something good out of something bad Lessons learned…. If you don’t you will carry the sorrow around with you always… not good… if you do, you will learn what happened… and in so doing come more to grips with the problem... the blame game is not allowed… the purpose is to find your role and grow from it if possible…take that to heart and let it make you warm inside and give you some self confidence…

Take some time to fix yourself up with a fresh image if you want… if you feel a new hair style might do it, or a manicure or a massage… a facial… whatever… do it… revamp yourself if you are not already fairly up to date in your fashions… This way you know you look as good as you can … and get lots of sleep so you are rested

One day while you are sitting around with egg on your face do an Internet search on the company… or go to the library… so that when you begin the job you know as much as possible… or get something in hard print and learn about them… impressive

Yanno,…. You just have butterflies in your tummy… you will do great and laugh at your apprehension… stress ain’t good for you… instead of beind all confident and radiating how great you feel, how confident… if you come from the place of fear or upset it will be sensed by those around you. Not always so good, so lighten up

And just think of you how lucky you are! Goood luck

Well this is a trick question I think age 33 is just wrong I do understand why they say that age it just does not make sense I mean why not 32 or 34 it is all in the perception of the times if you read it it says that they asked people over 40 and a lot of times people do not remember stuff that happened over a long period. To do this study correctly they should have asked a lot more people and I will bet that that they did not consider other criteria like gender and ethnicity into the solution so their survey is flawed. In fact unless the survey did provide it, but not the news report mention in the post you do not even know how they go the age of 33 as the happiest age was it by: Mean (add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of numbers); Median (the "middle" value in the list in numerical order it is the middle value); Mode (the value that occurs most often). I would say that a lot of people will say at least 5 -10 years ago it was the happiest time of their life. I do think that there are different times that a person can be the happiest in their life as people do tend to forget and feel again very happy at certain times. First I think age 5 and below most of the time people do not remember this age very clearly so it may not be mentioned that often but it an age where you have no worries and you living for the day making it my opinion the happiest time of your life afterwords you start school and pressure is placed on you to start a life. Then there is the age of 16 for a lot of girls it is their sweet 16 party and a life changer as you are now more trusted with responsibilities by your parents and you now can get a drivers license making it the time you have what every teenager wants the ability to have Freedom to go where you want since you can drive there yourself. At this age you have you first serious relationship and most likely the first time you had sexual intercourse. Then there is the age of 18 you get this time when you first vote and are considered an adult. Age 21 when you are legal to drink makes a lot of people happy. As for me I was happiest around the age of 16 I was still young and happy just graduated from High School had my first sexual intercourse with a girl I liked and was able to Drive whenever and wherever I needed to go. Went to college at 16 and had a blast.

many people start over again for a variety of reasons, like career change, or for some reason things didn't quite work out, so they need a plan B. Others has spent too much on studying or having a family life. I say it's never too late to have another job, you're not even 30. What's important is that you have the skills and drive to make it work. You'll climb your way up in no time.

Forget about your age. Put your mind into your job and show your boss YOU are the one that is going to be next to be promoted. I was in the same boat as you, I have no sales experience but I always wanted to get into the profession, so I interviewed and beat the 15 other guys with the 5 + years of experience. Show them you are ready for the challenge and get your hands dirty!

I agree with Sandy D. I myself have begun late, I spent a lot of years studying...and we tend to compare ourselves with others with more experience. I was feeling bad too at one job, where I worked with much younger people, but you know what, they all admired me for my education surpisingly, (something that I was taking for granted..and not giving myself due credit), and made me feel valued. It's normal to get those thoughts of comparisons, but change your focus, becoz those thoughts don't get you into a productive, uplifting mode. If anything, let those people inspire you, instead of making you feel bad. You too will be in their position, and even better!

Compete with yourself in the final analysis.

It's perfectly Fine to be where you are. We all have different backgrounds, experiences, and life situations. So in a way, comparisons are not even fair right?

All the best in your endeavors.

You should not compare yourself to others. You got the job, so your qualifications are that of those you are comparing yourself to. Be secure in your ability.
Many people get late starts. I saw when I was in college that people 50+ were finally going to get their degree. You know what you want, and no matter what prevented you from getting it sooner, you have it now. Be proud of your accomplishments and bask in the glory that is your new career!
