Hmmm, I'm not very good with this, but I hope this helps...

- A girl lives in the basement of a house, but the owner doesn't know it.
- Use these items in your story: a clock, a psychic, and a cup of water.
- He handed the rose to her and dashed away before she could see his face...

What do these words make you think of?

Blood
Raindrop
Rats
Gash
Cloud
Friend

Good luck!

Here's an exercise to get ideas: Try freewriting. Just write whatever comes into your mind. Somewhere in there will be at least one good idea!

If you need a place to start, try a question, like - What is a place you'd like to visit?

Just start writing about this place and anything else that comes into your mind, like why you want to go there, what you'll see, how you'll get there, who you might go with, strange things that could happen there, and then... where else might you go? Or go off on a completely different tangent, like how much you hate lines at airports or something. Just write, you'll find a story.

Personally would recommend thinking back over times of your life that either cheered you or upset you ( depends on where you prefer to go with your story), think what exactly about those memories makes you reflect on them with with such fondness/distain and from there you may like to consider how you could eminate that into a tale.

Alternatively, as soon as you have conceived a title for the story you may want to work off of that, writing down rough drafts and thoughts that conform to that title, from there you could just piece it all together.

nicely, ray Bradbury says he only lists a chain of nouns, and as quickly as he's finished brainstorming, he possibilities one out of the checklist and sees the place it takes him. Ex: The Ravine, the Skeleton, the Carnival. All of those ultimately grew to alter into titles and thought for a number of his maximum ordinary thoughts. David Morrell (guy who created Rambo) has a written verbal substitute w/ himself. it is how he eliminates author's block. He additionally writes that the only element u choose for a narrative is conflict. His formulation is "plot= conflict + motivation". it is all there is to it. somebody has a choose--does not remember how trivial--and somebody or some thing else tries to end them from attaining it. it is only that straightforward. a guy wanting to paint a house could be as compelling as a female wanting to be the 1st astronaut to land on Mars see you later as you dramatize how significant the purpose is to that guy or woman. maximum different solid thoughts initiate w/ a secret that somebody is attempting to not demonstrate. think of up a secret that somebody informed you, fictionalize it, then write approximately it. exchange any telling features, of course. or only arise w/ some thing that if it got here approximately to you, you're able to opt to maintain secret

What about a trip you took with your family for vacation?

Or Your first love

Or Fear of that first day of school

Or An imaginary personal flight in the air - like a bird does. What would you see? How would it feel? Where would you fly? Would you feel sorry for those tiny beings stuck on earth? And so on.

Enjoy!!
