Follow your intuition...I did all that check references stuff and got burnt when the item came broken in the mail. I had insurance that I paid for but the seller who ships it is the one who actually buys it with your money and if there is a claim they have to process it...Guess where the money goes if it breaks?...that's right the seller. I paid 300.00 for a glass punch bowl that broke. They got my 300.00 and the Insurances 300.00 or what ever they claimed it was worth. And me...I got some broken glass. This lady had over a thousand good marks...My point! Trust your intuiition there is little you can do in cases like this one .

For worries, there is no solution. What if you are hit by a tanker while you jog on roadside...hehehehe...

You can be only careful while u shop on ebay. Still noone can guarantee you wont be cheated, but the probability is reduced to great extent when you note the following things to name a few :

1. Check seller's feedback score. Look carefully how many negative feeds he got and why (buyers usually comment there along a feed).
2. Check if seller has some credits under his belt ...like if he is a hot seller or some other credit from ebay. This is plus for seller and increases buyer's faith in the seller.
3. Prefer buying from an ebay seller who has proper shop at ebay. The ebay shop owners have to pass a minimum standard to open an ebay shop.
4. Even if we suppose you are cheated, you still can negotiate the seller before you leave a feedback for the product you bought. Usually the seller replace the items or deal accordingly based on nature of problem before the buyer leaves negative feedback. You have a little control from this point also. Afterall none of the sellers would like a negative feed if hes a good one and has not intentionally done any damage to the deal. But exceptions do occur.

Still, i ll say again, nothing is guaranteed in this world. So leave worries aside, take your chance with due care.

Actually eBay is much safer now. They have a lot of things in place that protect both the buyers and the sellers on eBay now. Also eBay and paypal have partnered so you are truly protected from the start of the sell to the end of the sell. Also, you can tell how good of a seller someone is by looking at their feedback. Not just their feedback score, but reading the actual feedback's. You will be able to tell if the person is a good ebayer, or someone who gives people a lot of problems. Also, ebay and paypal will investigate for you if someone does try to pull one over on you and if you are found to be the victim you do get your money back. I shop on ebay all the time, and I have never had a problem. It's very safe too, because if you have paypal...which I highly recommend, the person never gets your personal credit information. If you don't have paypal then I suggest only paying with money orders. Paypal is super easy to get though, all you need is a bank account. Paypal doesn't cost anything too you either and it offers more protection than just ebay alone.

I sell on ebay and also buy. You need to look at the feedback of the person selling and make sure that they dont have a lot of negative feedback. If they do dont buy from them. It is a small risk but overall pretty safe and you can get some great deals.

Check out all of the comments other people leave. They will have a rating and if it's bad, don't buy anything off them. It's all quite safe don't worry.

Just check the sellers references, if they're good you have nothing to worry about it.
