Believe it or not Muriatic Acid WILL remove rust stains on ceramic tile and it will not hurt the tiling.
It is extremely caustic so please Use chemical gloves and a mask.
You find everything at the Home Depot.
Please have the room well ventilated.

I had to do this kind of restoration when I was the Property Manager of a building I once ran.

tough question! rust soaks into tile and is the devil to get out. below is a pretty good web site with detailed information. you may have to clean the tile more than once.

"CLR" should do it with minimal scrubbing. (Calcium Lime and Rust remover) Sold in supermarkets and hardware stores. Around here its in a green spray bottle.

borax, its not going to scratch your tile..nothing abrasive
believe or not toothpaste may work at it is abrasive but won't hurt the tile..just start with a small area..also I have tried lipstick and this has worked in the past for not only this but on jewelery.

CLR - cleans calcium, lime & rust.... sold in stores, walmart, home depot, lowes
