THANK YOU!!!!!
I've wondered this for...... well my whole life. I've always felt that it was a funny thing to do. And most of my friends (when we go to the movies or something) will clap at the end!!! And i always ask them why. And they always say, "just to bother people like you lol"
But really i have no idea, but i'm glad SOMEONE agrees with me :P

Lol no but if it's a good movie we are taken away, forgetting all else but the sheer enjoyment and clap in appreciation. Your right it is silly but you see we are human.
When I was a child we Cheer the good guys on, boo the bad, cry @ clap with glee. At the end we sometimes even stood and clapped. or roar with laughter You know I miss those times than you do you had just been part of something special.

Because going to a movie is still a large group event (different from when you watch it at home with just a couple other people) and even though the creators and talent in the movies cannot hear your appreciation, it's a way for an audience to share their appreciation for the movie they just watched together.
NOTE: Bottoms Up only pays $8 for a movie? We're paying $11.50 here! That makes a good point, if you pay that much, why not share your appreciation with those around you. Another good reason!

I guess people do this in theater's because they're moved by the Movie. and since they're not at the Oscar's to give a standing ovation, they clap instead.
(I'm guilty of this.....I've done it on several occasion). I'm aware that they can't hear, I just get caght up in the excitement of the movie.

it's like giving a big tip, if you are exited about how entertaining the movie is to you, you clap to show appreciation. it doesn't matter that the movie makers aren't there, humans need an emotional outlet, clapping in this case is it.

i do no longer clap yet jeeze guy, relax. you won't be able to end them from clapping so perhaps if it bothers you soo soo soo lots then you particularly ought to in basic terms watch them while they arrive to DVD or flow at a strange time. yet i think of human beings clap because of the fact they get so excited and want to teach their thoughts. i think of that could be a sprint dumb because of the fact they might't hear even though it does not hassle me lol.

I myself have always wondered why people do that. It doesn't make sense to me but I guess it's to show appreciation or approval for the entertainment you just had. It must be like a Pavlov reaction.
