There are a few very simple ways of doing this but you will NOT believe me... in fact, this is what I suggest to students and those few that have, have improved their grades significantly and gone on and graduated from college.

There's one book, "Word Power Made Easy," by Dr. Norman Lewis and he has several others that will also reinforce this one...

HOLD IT... let me explain the concept. Words are mental symbols of ideas, things, actions, events, etc. The more words you have, the more ideas, things, actions, events, etc., you have as resource to draw from. You will be able to understand more of what you read and more of what you hear; you will also be able to express yourself better when you speak and write. In fact, you will spend less time trying to decipher what you read. AND, would you believe it if I said that there's nothing to memorize or study? ALL you have to do is read and try to make sense of what is being said.... really.

HOW does this work? Well, all words are related to others, and they all have origins and roots. If you familiarize yourself with a few roots, and some roots are related to other roots, too; imagine how you'll come across a word that you never saw before and you'll have the main idea of the meaning of what is being said. How many related words and terms are there to, "psyche"? Psychology, psychologist, psychiatry, psychotherapy, psycho, psychiatric, psychic, psychoanalysis, psychoanalyst, psychoanalyze, psychotropic, psycho-somatic, psychedelic, psyched up, psyched out, psychogenesis, psychogenic, psychoeducational, psychodynamics, psychochemical, psychobiological, psychokinesis, psychological, psychological warfare, psychomotor, psychopath, psychopathic, psychosis, psychotic, psychological block... etc (and a multitude more). How many of these can you figure out?

Understanding and knowing more will open up your mind to so much more that's around you. See the list of words above? If you know a few word roots, you can more or less figure out the rest by just using your imagination! Everything around you has something else that is related to something else, and you'll have the words to describe OR recognize them if you develop your vocabulary.

Haven't you see how curious kids are and how easy it is for a good educator that can inspire them to learn? Well, that educator knows how to stimulate and inspire but the kids are like sponges and do most of their learning up to just at about the time they ready to graduate from high school... they're still curious and full of imagination!

Here's something else. You probably may not like to read. Once you develop your vocabulary you will get so much more of what you read that you will enjoy reading and look forward to reading. OR you may not remember most of what you read... well, improving your vocabulary will help you because you will understand more of what you read, and it will be easier to remember what you DO understand. When I read something, I see a mental "movie" that is so rich and colorful and finely detailed, as the author intended and no movie can ever quite duplicate with images!

Reading is the other way of improving your imagination but it will help you much more if you develop your vocabulary. All you have to do is READ about 20-30 minutes every night at bedtime (best time to remember things you read is before going to sleep) and trying to understand what it says, that's all.

AND if you're a student, you won't have to spend so much time reading and re-reading things in order to decipher the meaning of text... or spend so much time trying to rephrase things to avoid plegarism in your reports and term papers! You'll spend less time studying, and your grades will soar! You'll also do better in State exams, too. And your chances of graduating from college will be increased many times!

Give it a try and see. You'll soon start picking up bits and pieces of all things around you, and building your imagination, as you build your vocabulary!

Actually, I believe you already have imagination but you may lack the confidence and the words to express your imagination. Try reading this book to the end; it should take you about a month or five weeks, at most. You'll surprise yourself and those around you, I promise.

Remember: knowledge is good, but having the imagination to use it is BETTER!

There is a cool book called "The Artists Way" by Julia Cameron.
She has you get back in touch with your creative side by:
stream of consciousness journaling
tv deprivation
drawing
spend time on yourself
listening to music with your eyes closed
lots of other stuff...
Your imagination is NOT GONE! Just misfiled.

It worked for me!

Write more often. Really it helps. And I don't know if this works for most people, but for me, if I read, I loose most of my inspiration. Observe things. Observe people. Go to Starbucks and write about the people who come in like the real, not poser, emos do. Keep a diary. Listen to music that doesn't have words and make your own. It gets easier the more you do it.

hang around kids! I'm not joking! if you have kids, nephews, nieces, younger cousins, neighborhood kids... just ask them their opinion on simple things, and what "would happen if..." questions! kids have the greatest outlook on life, it's so incredible.

Also, give time to daydream in a day more often. Take a break off work or school and take time to relax. no phone calls. no email. no nothin'! just relax and imagine stories.

Cartoons help too. :]

Your imagination is there already, rudimentary humanity really although if you're fond of sugary things and caffeine, that can fog up
your clarity of thought, making thinking straight particularly difficult.

think like a child. see with your mind what others cant. read and try to see whats happening. start doodling and sing with the radio. just have fun with yourself and dont take things too seriously, that kills imagination.

don't think of reality so much, instead, look at some object and think of how you can flip it, twist it, and still get it to work. get out of that workforce groove, and become one with evrything around you, consume everything you lay eyes on and think of how you can change that think to make it something better, or make it able to do more of something..."
