As with all accents worldwide, the ones that cause the most problems are the ones that are more heavily accented. In the UK the north east accent causes most problems in understanding. All countries have regional accents, some are easy to understand, but others may make you think carefully about what has just been said, and some words will almost certainly be misunderstood.

I'm American so I think I speak perfectly normally! Ha, ha! Actually different geographic locations have different accents so to be more specific I have a West Coast (California) accent...but due to the fact that I have family from Oklahoma that lived with me growing up - I slip to southern every once in a while too. I actually like hearing people from around the states and around the world speak - it is refreshing to hear people who don't say "like" and "ya know" every other word.

Well, there are so many! I'm from Queens, NY, and I know that there is an accent there...as well as in Brooklyn, and Long Island. All different. Clearly, the Southern accent. And currently, I am in Erie, PA, and because it is so close to the Canadian Border, some of the Canadian accent actually filters down. Personally, I love the wide range of accents in America...truly a melting pot!

I'm answering this question primarily because your name is also "Annie" and that is awesome.

I once dated a Scottish guy and we used to play-argue about which one of us had the "accent" and which one of us just talked "normal." It was pretty funny.

I'd prefer to have a non-American accent, but only because to me, it is more exotic. I'd really love a good, thick Scottish accent, especially for singing. It just seems older and more beautiful.

I find the way Americans speak really great. Every area basically has their own accent. I find this very interesting.

Every people has accent or better, speaks his language with any dialect. There is no language without dialects, dear sagitaria..
We, Brazilians, find the dialects of USA easier than the British ones, because their vowels are more opened, like our dialects of Portuguese language, very distinct from the Portuguese of Portugal.
I, at contrary, think British English very melodious. I just would adore that welsh and Scottish Gaelic became official in Wales and Scotland.

What accents? Well maybe the Southerners and New Yorkers have accents. Now the Aussies and Irish have some cute accents.

You can hardly differentiate between East and West Coast accents, despite the 3000 miles between the two (compared with Britain's many regional accents), which isn't such a bad thing in terms of snobbery (percieved 'class'; I hate that term).
On the other hand, the American accent is HUGELY irritating.
