Judging from the overall quality of the writing on this site, I would have to say; MORE ENGLISH CLASSES!!

Seriously though, high schools ought to make mandatory either some type of performing arts, or a class involving actual job related skills, such as "shop" class, or maybe some type of class that teaches how to write research papers. Many schools have a mandatory "life skills" class, but that can really mean anything. They should make taking such a class mandatory every year of school. That way they could afford to be more in depth, instead of glossing over so many different topics. They should also make such classes a lot less boring, or course, so students actually get the message that "hey! This is really important stuff!"

A World History or World Perspectives course. Too many people, especially Americans, are narrow minded, and they don't know what is going on in the world. They have an American- centered view of the world, and really need to get out of their little boxes. I know most students in my high school were so ignorant of other cultures, political events, history, etc, and it was disturbing. After all, how can we relate to people and communicate effectively with them if we know nothing about their cultures?

In addition, I think better English classes and mandatory foreign languages courses would beneficial as well.

Personal Finance- Millions of college kinds get sucked into debt because of lack of knowledge of credit scams. I'm a senior and I'm taking the class and I've never learned so much. It's a course where you learn stuff that you will actually use everyday. Learning about mortgages, credit, getting and keeping a job etc. It's a really great course that I think every kid should take because its one that everyone will use later on.

I think all students would benefit from a course in Ethics. It is decision-making taken to a whole new level- and we know that it couldn't hurt for all teenagers to have more lessons in that area!

I was going to say physics, but now I think the personal finance thing is more useful. It takes me forever to do my taxes, I always manage to screw them up - and I've taken enough math courses to have a masters' in it.

Logic. Teach people to think and most of the other stuff becomes self explanatory.

SPELLING AND GRAMMAR. I don't think it's a course on it's own, but it should be. And I agree with the person that said ETHICS too.
