You don't need to give your hamster a bath. Hamsters produce a natural body oil that helps keep them clean. If your hamster is so dirty that you're even considering a bath- clean his cage while he's in his play ball. Use a small amount of bleach but make sure you rinse the cage thoroughly. This includes tunnels, nesting boxes, toys, and food dishes. You should be cleaning his cage once a week and changing the liter and bedding 3-4 times. If you can't do that and your little hamster is smelling that bad- maybe you aren't responsible enough to care for him. If you want to help keep him clean put a small amount of grooming dust(most commonly used for chinchilas, but safe for hamsters) in a container inside his cage.

You could give a hamster a bath, but you shouldn't! It will be hard to keep control of him as he will fight the bath. There is a very good chance that he could accidentally inhale some water and drown. There's no reason to take that risk. If he happens to have gotten dirty from something then use a wet cloth to clean him up. If you feel you need to add some soap or shampoo to the cloth then use a tiny dab of baby shampoo that won't hurt him if it gets in his eyes.

If his fur is looking a little clumpy or greasy, there's a trick we show breeders use. We take a very small amount of baby powder and rub it into their fur. Then you can use a baby brush to smooth his coat out. If he is longhaired and has any mats then carefully cut them out.

Do NOT wash your hamster. His little body can't handle it. The best way to keep a hamster clean is to keep the cage clean.

You don't need to wash your hamster. They groom themselves. Maybe it needs some fresh bedding and some clean sand to waller in.

PetSmart has a jacuzzi-type tub for hamsters. It has a battery-operated whirlpool function. They sell a certain kind of hamster shampoo to go in it but I think you can use dog shampoo.

make sure you have a towel handy, put some warm water in the sink, dip him up to his neck making sure not to get water in his ears or nose, use a gentle soap, rinse him gently and then wrap him in the towel and cuddle him. if he finds this terrifying give him tons of treats afterwards.
