It would have to be Go.

It is a territorial game played on a wooden board with black and white stones. If you've seen the movie "A Beautiful Mind" it was the game played by Russel Crowe and Josh Lucas in the Princeton Quadrangle.

It is an ancient Asian game, known as Igo in Japan, Baduk in Korea and Wei-chi in China. It has simple rules and you can be playing in 20 minutes, but it has greater depth than chess by some measures. It is an endlessly rewarding game and now, with the internet, it is easy for a non-Asian to get good games.

if we are talking of board games, chess is of course up there

but there's a potential new best

in the 70's, a filipino invented "the game of the generals"

its one block ahead of chess which 9x9, 'the generals' is 10x10

we have two players and one or two arbiters (referee)

why a referee? its because you cannot see the opponent's pieces, it is visually hidden to you as he maneuvers it around the board and take on your own pieces.

i personally call it 'the spy game'

it is very easy to learn but takes a while to master, and even master can be defeated by amateurs

the game was in the 70's, actually played the real generals and military experts. i just did'nt know why the game hasn't reach popularity to the present.

you can buy this game probably at ebay and i tell you that its very cheap

here you can buy it for $7.00 only

once you've tried it, you can never stop playing it. you'll find yourself eager to play with others and even want to make competetions.

if you decide to play it and wants some advice on advanced tactics, email. i'd be more than happy to teach you.

Republic of Rome by Avalon-Hill is the best game ever invited. It is intensely challenging and requires a great deal of interaction among the players, who must balance self-interest with cooperation for Rome to survive.

RISK is my favourite board game. If you dont know it, its a world domination strategy game where you have armies that you use to fight by trying to beat your opponents dice rolls, and take over countries. Maybe doesnt sound very exciting how Ive desribed it! But can end up a long saga like monopoly and gets very competitive.
