I think parents spoil their children a bit more. I don't think I would advise a child getting a cellphone until they are capable of maintaining a conversation, though. I had an 18 year old in my house who would talk on the phone, "yeah? yeah. yeah!"
It'd be nice if they had verbal skills,

I totally agree! I have a 13 year old step-daughter and she has talked about having a boyfriend every since she was 10! I didn't have a whole lot do to with boys at age 10. I was too busy just hanging out with my best friend, talking on the phone, watching movies.(That was 24 years ago). I'm 34 and just got my first cell phone a year ago for Christmas! Not to mention, I would be knocked to the ground by my mother if I tried to dress the way some of these kids do today. I fear for my 2 yr. old daughter!

Yes, yes they are. Children in today's society are exposed to so much more than kids who grew up just a few years earlier. Now kids are doing things such as dating way to early. Teenage pregnancy is very high, it is almost nothing today to see a 14 year old girl pregnant. I see them everyday. Also, the media can be blamed, I think the media is what is raising up the kids too fast. The sexually explicit content in the music videos and television is just too much!!!!! I think the media is wrong for encouraging certain types of behavior, because they know that the children are influenced by it. I think that the advances in technology are great and they can add to a child's education, but technology also has a part in helping kids to grow up too fast. Because of the high advances in game systems, computers, music, etc. children do not have the time to enjoy the sweet things in life that children should, such as playing outside on a swing set, playing in a sandbox, playing ball, hopscotch, etc. I actually feel like many of the kids are just being cheated out of a real childhood, not by choice, but because of today's society and what kids are exposed to at such early ages.

It may seem that way. However, technology is booming. Most 9 year olds can use a computer better then their parents. They are taught to use them at school. Its the in thing. Its a shame the younger kids won't know what it was like without cell phones. I remember peace and quiet when they were not around. Times are a changing and at a very fast pace.
P.S. Because we are such a fast paced society now adays, Do you think parents are responsible by rushing their kids to grow up now adays? I think I will make that my next yahoo question.

Kids are not necessarily growing up too quickly but rather just advancing in the terms of (in my opinion) techonology and sex. Kids these days seem to have grown in with society that seems to focus on these two subjects greatly. If kids were "growing up" they would have a mature way of thinking and be too wise to know that these two subjects are actually focused on in a rather wrong way. So I agree and yet I disagree. I agree that children are neglecting their childhood and focusing too much on what should be enjoyed later. I disagree that children are actually evolving into adults at a young age, it's just an imitation that is not yet grasped and understood.

Kids are absolutly growing up fast, do you know they are mom and me pedicures and facials? It's normal to see young kids with cell phones now all the time, kids are watching MTV, I know a 6 year old that has a MYSPACE,and a 7 year old shopping for makeup recently at the victoria secret sale and she had makeup on!!!!!! no lie, it's just our society though. Innocence is less and less now.

I'm guessing you probably would have become used to laptops and cell phones at an earlier age if they had become more widespread earlier (they wouldn't have been "withheld" or anything...). I don't think what you're seeing is an increase in "maturity" so much as technological skills, which only makes sense when you think about it. Standard of living and all that...

Hey! I totally agree! I'm 21, but children nowadays are so mature. They know almost anything. I think, children should act like one! They're just growing up too fast and believe me, it's not always a good thing to grow up fast. They should be outside, playing with their friends and all..they're just shocking to me.
