A single character takes about a byte of memory location.

1,024 Byte = 1 Kilobyte (KB)
1,024 Kilobyte (KB) = 1 Megabyte (MB)
1,073,741,824 Bytes = 1 Gigabyte (GB)
1 Gigabyte (GB) = 1,024 Megabyte (MB)

To clear up the obvious here. Both answers here are correct, depending on how your HD is set up [which manufacturer]. Western Digital considers a gigabyte to be 1000 megabytes. Windows uses the 1,024 preference. So in short, a gigabyte can be considered either 1,000 megabytes or 1,024 megabytes.

A megabyte is 1,000,000 bytes a gigabyte 1,000,000,000 bytes.

Both of you, wrong. 1gb = 1024mb, not 1000.
