If you can't think of anything, why write? Seriously, writing is because you have a story to tell and you want to share it. There is a lot of labor involved and the rewards are very small, almost nonexistent. You have to want to write that story pretty badly to see it through to the end.

With that in mind, you need to start playing the what-if game. Take a situation or a character and start playing with alternate actions and consequences. You can start with your own life. What if you hadn't dated THAT boy. What if you'd dated a guy who was less popular and blossomed into a super businessman?

Or what if the women of Iraq suddenly rose up and kicked all the men in their household out who were fighting for the insurgency? You could make a really good story out of ONE mother's decision not to let her son come home until he gave up the weapons. It could be really rough, too, because she'd had to tell that son. If her husband is alive, there'd be an argument with him, too. It's easier if you keep it to a fantasy setting so you don't have to mess with the names and culture, but it would be a wonderful story.

Anyhow, you get the point on what-ifs. Pick up the newspaper or look at the online news until a story catches your eye and run with it. Good exercise.

When you find the story you desperately want to write, be prepared to spend long hours at it. I've had characters drag me out of bed after only two hours sleep to continue writing. It's rewarding, but you lose sleep.

I suggest you fix your self your favorite drink (perhaps a cup of tea) and a snack, turn the lights down in the quiet of a comfortable room and think back through your life. Go back to a memory or the kind of stories you have always loved. Think about why you loved the memory or the story. What kind of a story was it? What was so satisfying about it? Let your mind drift through the feelings it gave you. Can you recreate your own version? Can you make it better? Can you help others to feel that wonderful way also? Let your mind go there. Pretty soon you'll be typing your little fingers off! Have fun with it and get as much out of it as you can! Good luck!

Write a fanfiction. I know you can't take as much credit for the creation of characters, etc., but at least you wrote something! (A fanfiction is a story you write using copyrighted characters, ideas, etc., and you CANNOT publish it, unless you want to get sued. You can send it in to a website dedicated to those kinds of fanfictions, though.)
