Like well I think I'm gonna go with this because I remember once this thing happened that has no relevance toward the answer but I wanna draw this out cuz I like to hear myself talk? LOL

I seriously think the producers on the show tell them to do that. If you notice, the host always asks them stuff like "is that your final answer" and "are you sure about that" trying to get them to talk more. I think they do this to build suspense.
If I were ever on a game show, I would only answer "yes" or "no" or succinctly state the answer, and I'd REFUSE to elaborate. That'd p*ss them off!

I hate it how on Jeopardy and other shows, they take a minute to tell you more about the contestant. It's all just to use up the time.

This is their one moment of fame, and conciously or subconciously, they want to make that as long as possible. For a moment, they have millions of people watching them.
