If you "know" they are being tortured, surely you have some facts from credible sources, such as respected zoologists, university researches, have anecdotal evidence from many people. You could you refer her to those sources.
If however, you feel strongly that circus animals are being mistreated, your argument will have more power if you don't exaggerate. Soft facts speak more powerfully than loud exaggerations.

Unfortuntely yes... Like most circuses they do in order to get the animals to preform...
