I got a research about censorship. and i have to argue whether or not i am for or against it ....can i get some of you opinions for why you are for or against censorship

it depends on what you are talking about in terms of censorship.
The need to know basis, isn't actually censorship. It is more of "not revealing everything you know, until the correct time"
However censorship, I don't agree with as far as books and television. But I do believe the media and general public should use discretion. Just because you have the right doesn't mean you should use it.

John Stuart Mill argued under his harm principle, that although we may not agree with certain ideas, the ability to look outside ourselves and accept these ideas made us better people. It can be a very tricky issue to talk about. So just think about it for yourself. Is it right to censor what we as a society view objectionable or should our own individual rights prevail in our right to be exposed to such material...? Personally, I think that the principle of individual rights prevail. In the case of parents being worried about their children, new technology has allowed for tv programming, while the FCC has guidelines of its own. On the other side of the issue, you can argue that parents aren't always there with their children, and other types of media can not be censored so easily. If you've ever read 1984, think about the repercussions of a controlled society where all your actions are being watched, in a sense that you lose your own identity in fear. Think about the consequences of censorship..

i am against censorship because it violates your freedom of speech. Its dumb that you cant say a word because of its meaning. But yet in schools you can femail dog but not *********.
