physical therapy can help, but you will not be able to play football with just therapy. so, the best way that i'm aware of is surgery. sorry, but talk to your doctors first and physical therapist.

i went through acl, and it's not an easy thing, i'm not gonna lie to ya, but it's not as bad as you think either. even with surgery you'll have to wear a brace for a while. good luck to you!!!!

There really isn't no other way to heal from an ACL injury besides surgery. Reason being is because when it somes to the game of football, your're gonna be putting your knee under alot of pressure, changing directions, stopping at a moment's notice etc. Your ACl is what enables you to do all of those things when its completly healthy. Thing is it won't get any better with time. The swelling will go down, but as soon as you try to push it to the limit again it'll fail. You can live a regular lifestyle without having surgery, but if you love the game like I did, surgery is the only way.

Take it from me I tore my left ACL playing football and had the surgery. To me its never felt the same since. Even after the physical therapy. I don't have the explosiveness I once had. But you can bounce back. Take Willis McGahee of the Bills for instance..

There actually are alternatives to fixing a torn ACL. It's just that you won't be able to do anytype of high intensity sports without surgery.
