if the minority groups equal ,say 30% of the british public.why are more than 70-80% of the people shown on crimewatch foreign.?..........i watched a show last week on itv about identity theft and apart from one guy white from canada all the others appeared to be black /asian/ mixed race...Are the tv shows racist,or could i be mistaken in thinking if 30% of people in britain are foreign then only 30% of the criminals in these shows should be foreign

Unfortunately cultures tend to depict minorities in a negative spin in a larger percentage then the majority of that race.
For example, if you watch asian martial arts movies the "foreign devils" are also played up. Bruce Lee was well know for instilling national pride in his movie when he kicked the butt of the Japanese who were oppressing his people as example.
Sad but true it comes down to one word ... Ratings.
Now why do people do it? Enlightened people are not threatened by multiculturalism, but a lot of people view things they have a poor understanding of with fear. So when they want to depict a "typical" criminal they show a minority.
Additionally, if you look at the social/economic aspect. Blacks (at least in the US) are a dispropriately high percentage of the people service criminal sentences due to lack of economic opportunities and education. Poor, Uneducated = Increase Crime. So the stereotype to a certain extent is an accurate reflection of the results of an underprivilaged people.

maybe the TV shows are based in inner city areas that have multi-cultural population so the % of mixed race is increased ...you only have to look at some schools in these areas can be all mixed race whereas in the countryside less so ....on the other hand i take yr point that the criminals should be spread evenly across all races.........

Well I hate to be simplistic about my answer but it's because they're committing the most crimes! Whilst I am sure that the majority of Black/Asians are hard working citizens, it doesn't change the fact that a disproportionately large percentage are breaking the law.

THOSE actors / actresses weren't given other acting roles.
Its in other occupations too. Look at basketball. 90% of players are black, and 90 % of coaches are white. Who should know better about playing basketball but the players or former players? Tis not fair, not even logical, eh ? !
