All the stores around me (Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, etc) no longer sell notebooks with XP. It's only been 48 hours since the release and no one sells XP anymore. Is Vista backwards compatable. Can I buy a Vista notebook and just install XP or am I asking for trouble?

I am pretty sure that you can buy a Vista notebook and install windows XP. the only problem I see is that you are going to spend extra money in buying an XP program. Or you could try a smaller store they might still carry windows xp units. those big stores don't care because they don't loose money they can just get credit for the XP and they get new Vista units. the smaller business are not that lucky.

good luck

You can install it on a new laptop even if it comes with Vista. I would be surprised you can't find XP on the software shelf though.
If you can't find XP on a new laptop at the store, check ebay.

Try Comp-USA. At last check they had XP (both versions) on sale. Try looking via online or check with TigerDirect.Com out in Orland Park. Im sure you will have some degree of success w/them.

if they don't have them around you, then you might just get it on eBay. there are plenty on their. just make sure you are getting a sealed bag and the numbers are also sealed along with the hologram disk..
