Are they horrible? Good? Totally screw with your body?--I heard the shot does. I'd just like some personal experiences to know what it's really like.

sure, here goes....well i have been on the pill for almost 2yrs and have NO problems what so ever.....but a lot of woman have some side effects, decreased sex drive, weight gain or loss, headaches, vomiting etc......but most of them are extremely mild and usually only last a couple of months and then fade.....there are tons of of birth control options and all kinds of different pills so most woman find the one that works for them but i have a friend who got sick on every single type of pill she took so she got on the depo shot and it really screwed her up....she was on it for about a year and then went off of it to get pregnant and couldn't.....she tried for about a year and a half and finally had to get fertility drugs to get her system back in order....i would go on the pill if you wanted and stay way from the shot but there is also the ring and the patch...but your doctor will ask you a bunch of questions and give you physical and stuff and you will decide what is best for you. just make sure you make an informed decision and if you are not happy with it or get to sick then tell your doctor right away...hope this helped

ok an ex friend of mine was using the shot that you usually have to get every 3 months. She told me when she took me for the first time to go get my birth control that the shot worked out great. She was happy that she didn't have to worry about remembering to take a pill at a certain hour and that she and her boyfriend were "HAPPY" with how things were between them if you know what i mean. I decided to take the pills to try them out and maybe getting the shot if i got tired of the pill. Next thing you know i was accompanying her to the clinic because after she went for her 2nd dose of the shot she didn't stop bleeding for 2 months straight she had to wear tampons for weeks straight. I've been on the pill ever since for 1 year and half, i have a fiance whom ive been with for almost 2 years and not pregnant and wont be for some time thank you very much. All i can tell you is protect yourself anyway you can, there are options and in my opinion i dont really trust something that will hold my period for months i'd rather take the pill and at least know when im getting my period. I haven't lost or gained weight but i did change pill brands once now i have the correct brand (OrthoCyclen) for my body, thats the good thing you can get the right pill that work best for you. If you go to your neighborhood's Clinic i bet they can be very helpful, some clinics, like mine, offer FREE birth control until you turn 18. Check it out :)

Birth control pills regulate your period, release hormones into your body so that you have a lower chance of getting pregnant (usually about 97% accurate)

They are alot better then some of the other means of birth control. The patch will rip the skin off of whatever you apply it to. (very painfull) The shot has been starting to show signs of cancer in some women and also screw up your body. (it can bee a year after you've stoped taking the shot and you still wont get your period.)

Condoms are a good means of birth control. But don'ty always work.

Diaphrams are a pain in the ***. you have to insert them before sex, and take them out right afterwards, which can be messy.

the best birth control is the pill, its been around for many years and still nothing shows that its caused any problems in any women.

I was on the shot for 3 years and there was nothing about it that I liked. I lost a bunch of weight and had a 14 day period every month. I hated it. The pill was ok, but i could never remember to take them. When I did take them my periods were lighter and I had less cramping. I always still used condoms just to prevent any kind of STDs (I didn't really trust my boyfriend at the time)

Birth Control, such as Yasmin and Yaz are great. I first started Yasmin to control my cycle and stayed on it after I met my husband to prevent pregnancy. They recently came out with Yaz, which is the same thing as Yasmin but is a lower dose of hormones so there are less side effects (supposedly, but I dont have any side effects). I have friends who have been on the shot, for some of them it was great, other blew up like a balloon (plus it makes it harder to get pregnant when you decide you want to have babies). My family line is extremely fertile and I havent gotten pregnant using yasmin or yaz. You really should talk to your Gynocologist about your options. Whatever you do though, dont get "the ring", it was horrible and made me crampy all month long for the 2 months I tried it. Oh yeah, with the pills, give yourself about 2 -3 months for you body to get used to it and for it to be in your system.

Birth control pills don't screw up your body. I've quit taking them twice and got pregnant right away both times. I've been on them since I was 15, now I'm 23 and pregnant w/ #2. I never got pregnant while taking the pill, my periods were more regular, and they prevented me from getting Endometriosis like my mom had.

So bc does have some good side effects such as regular light periods and everything else people listed here. However, you should definitely know that girls/women who are on birth control have 3 times the risk to develop strokes (blood clots that go to the brain) and have a higher risk to develop blood clots in general. They have also shown to increase the risk of cancer.. I was on it for 3 months until I started hearing all of these bad connections with bc, and my mom also had a dream in which my grandma (passed away) told her birth control is not a good drug and anyone taking it shouldn't anymore -- and my mom didn't even know I was taking it when she had that dream. So yeah that kinda freaked me out because everytime she has a dream like that I know it holds a sign.. But anyways, besides that, I don't think its good. So just do your research and be sure to talk to your doctor about the other risks involved with it! Good luck.

I honestly liked the patch better. Its not as harmful as most people play it up to be and its very affective. I was on it for 2 years and my body seemed to get use to it and I started having really screwed up periods again, so I had to switch to the pill..and ended up getting pregnant. So...its really just what ever you would like to take or wear or what ever. Good Luck

I have been on several different birth control pills and had trouble with all of them. I have now been on the Nuva Ring for about 8 months and love it! You don't have to remember the pill every day and there are less side effects.

Ok, they DO too work if used correctly, sheesh. I take ortho-tricyclen lo, which has a lower dose of hormones in it than the original ortho tri pill. I like it. My periods are lighter and more reliably timed and it's good for your skin if you have acne issues. I haven't noticed any changes in my mood since I started taking them, but I have gained about five pounds, (I've been on them for seven months), but that could also be attributed to winter time laziness. A good idea would be to talk to a doctor, or planned parenthood, about your options, because there are quite a few and your individual medical history needs to be taken in to account.
