Many experts say aprox 45 mins is the optimum study/concentration period. Take a short break after that & then get back to study. Plan your study - always have a specific purpose/goal in mind for each study period.

It's been found that your concentration is at its best for about 20 minutes at a time. So if you're studying/revising, take a short break every 20 mins. By short I mean don't go off for like half an hour cos you'll lose focus. Just take 5 minutes to stretch your legs or get a drink, etc and then get back to it with your mind a little more refreshed.

depends on how interested and motivated i am. With thai language I was able to concentrate, with my favorite tutor/helper, for countless hours; I would truly find myself abandoned of the reality of time and even space. I have recorded 6 hours straight before. Now we "break" with light chit chat and laughter...often...but that chit chat is all in Thai, my 2nd language...and so "counts".

However, if it's something more mundane, I would say max 2 hours w/o a break. More often about 25 min with 5 min refreshers for 2-3 hrs. Best wishes

According to the research on learning and retention (sorry don't have time to find my references at this minute - need to walk the dog), 20 minutes max.

When I advise students to timetable their study time/rest time, I always ask them to work with blocks of 20 minutes - that also means they can fit in Corrie and Eastenders into their study timetable quite nicely. [What do you mean you've never done a study timetable??] Don't be tempted to stick all your 20 minutes together and have a marathon 3 hour study period - that defeats the object and results of the research.

Apparently the best method is 20 mins at a time with a short break in between.

Well I guess it differs for everybody... but you learn more in the first 15 minutes of any study period.
