Genes are the code for forming proteins. DNA is formed by nucleotides (adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine). Every 3 of these bases (along the whole DNA strand), codify for a aminoacid, and several aminoacids form proteins. Several proteins determine a feature. In human genetics, everything except blood type (A, B, AB or 0) is determined by more than one gene, so you would have to repeat several times the short story I wrote before, to determine de dominance of every gene, that's why it´s not as easy to determine your hair or skin colour just by watching your parents'. In short, what makes your hair a certain colour is the several proteins in your hair that were made by your body after "reading" the "DNA cook book"

Genes are a small portion of the strand of DNA. The order of the nitrogen-containing bases (adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine) determine your genetic code. These are pretty much the blueprints for everything that you are. Inside and out. You inherit one set of genes from each parent and depending if the genes are dominant, recessive, codominant, or incompletely dominant, they will influence who you are and what you look like.

genes are suructures that determine the genetic make up an individual. they determine traits such as hair color, eye color.and so on. an individual's traits are determined during crossover when the male and female gamete meet or fuse i.e during fertilization. the individual will have characteristics inherited from its parents.that is why we have a certain hair color or a certain nose shape.
