Nancy Pelosi is not only Speaker of the House, she's the first female in history to hold the post. Politically, this makes her the most powerful woman in the United States at this moment.
And according to the constitutional law of presidential succession, if Bush and Cheney were suddenly killed or incapacitated (or abducted by an alien spacecraft), she --as speaker of the House-- would become president of the US.
