I had a converstation with one of my customers today about how nano technology is going to change our future. What does this mean to you? I'm not very familar with it at this point in time.

Nanotechnology is a new science. It is not just because we are dealing with matters at nanometer (nm) level. It is because the size of most atoms are 1/2 to several nm, nanotech is therefore about phenomenon and technologies of only several layers of atoms. Note that even micro tech (10-6 meter) has thousands of layers of atoms so materials properties are still what we call bulky. Not nano.
Challenges include how to design and fabricate one or more devices made of several atoms consistently, what to do with them, etc.
It has been shown so far that some nano materials have very different properties and can be used in clothing, medical, construction materials, biotech, environment and so forth.
A fancy idea is that nano robots (devices made of several same of different atoms that can duplicate themselves inside your body) can be injected in your body. By size, they are 100 to 1000 times smaller than the DNA's so the robots can go "work on" the DNA chain and "take out" unwanted genes that might be diseased or undesirable. In this case, there will be no need for taking medications, which are chemicals with often toxic side effects.
But nanotech is at least 10 years away to have any predicatable use

nano means 10 to the power of -9. i.e 1 divided by 1000000000. nano technology means the technique of manipulating, controlling the natural structure and arrangement of atoms to suit different purposes. this field has a great future. its application are as follows- 1. nano reactors 2. nano tubes which can act as filters these are some examples of many hope this helps
