My sixteen yr old nephew has "fallen in love" with another sixteen yr. old girl. He has not been attending school. I think he feels that he could get the death benefit ($1,200/MO) and live off of that with his girlfriend. I guess my bottom line question is can he still receive the death benefit from his father if he is emancipated from his mother? We live in Alaska.

Emancipated or not the child received the SS death benefit until age 18, or age 23 if still enrolled in school full time (college).

I'm not sure but I think he can become emancipated and still collect the benefits as long as he stays in school. If he quits school, he is no longer eligible.

you does no longer get a dime. you does no longer be the youngster so why might get the funds. no longer attempting to be might yet you want the cake and consume it to. the only way you get funds is once you are the 2nd beneficiary and/or your mom has died yet you won't be able to be emancipated given which you're no longer suitable or the youngster anymore so why might you get the funds.

Tell him he isn't going anywhere on $1200 a month.

Stay at home...go to school...get a real job.
