I had a slightly positive urine home pregnancy test so I had a blood test done and it came up negative. I have now missed the entire month of January. and am starting to wonder could the blood test have been wrong?

Go to your ob/gyn and have more tests because you might have something else wrong with you

I found this on the net:

False positive results can result from diseases like choriocarcinomas, IgA deficiencies, heterophile antibodies, enterocystoplasties, gestational trophoblastic diseases (GTD), gestational trophoblastic neoplasms (GTN), and testicular germ cell malignancies. Also, many home pregnancy tests show a positive or unclear result when read well after the suggested 3-5 minute window, independent of an actual pregnancy; this type of false positive is also known as an evaporation line. Additionally anyone who has been given an hCG injection would also give a false positive.

Some individuals react to some substrate in the test and thus will display a consistently low positive blood pregnancy test even though they are not pregnant. This phantom hCG may lead to serious misdiagnosis and intervention, but can be detected with serial dilutions. Patients with phantom hCG have a positive blood hCG but a negative urine hCG test.[

Blood test are very accurate but like everything else in this world there could have been mistakes! unlikely but possible. Also blood test may become more strongly positive after the initial test. The amount can actually be quantified. I would just repeat the test to have peace of mind

Most likely not BUT it's possible. The most likely scenario is that the home pregnancy test was a "false" positive and the blood test was right but since you're so very late I'd take another home test to see what you get. It's possible that your HCG hormone levels were enough to show up on a home test but not high enough to fall into what they consider positive for a blood test. Trust me, I have had that happen. Test again :)

yes in fact they can be wrong. i have a very close friend who missed her period and the hpt was neg then she had a blood test and it was neg. this went on for three months, with blood tests every two weeks, all of which came up neg. well they finally did an ultrasound to see if something else was going on and guess what they found...a baby. so yes even blood tests can be wrong sometimes. good luck. best wishes.

Yes, it can. I had one done that was negative and the very next day I got a positive home test. I was about 3 weeks late.

It does not matter if it sat there for a month, it will not affect the results. You could go to the ER right now and complain of pain and say you think you are pregnant and they will do a blood test on you and you would find out within 45 minutes.

Labs have made mistakes before, but it is very rare.

Take another urine test, it should be strongly positive.

What do you mean the urine test was slightly positive. It either is or it isnt. If youve missed your period I think that you should take the test again. Also look for symptoms. Good Luck!
