The government has no competition. So it doesn't need to work efficiently. It's cashflow coming in is directed by themselves, not based on production, but based on their desires/needs. Which means they have absolutely NO incentive to produce efficiently. There is nothing that they have done that couldn't have been done more efficiently in the private, free market. It's impossible for their to be anything by definition of the government and human nature. And to edit your question, it should be a 'private sector in a free economy'. i.e. other responders point of education. University of Phoenix is better relatively speaking, but only because the government gets involved with grants, etc. in the world of education, significantly increasing the cost of college and minimizing competition between schools. and Boldini - the private sector will create health inspector organzations that will be paid for by the peanut butter company to inspect their product and give a seal of approval. I, as a consumer, will pay $0.25 more for that jar of PB knowing it's safe. The PB company increases sales, the inspection company makes money and I buy a service. All for lower taxes. Do you see how the world should work? A place where we all have incentive to produce! Not incentive, as gov't programs do, to 'need more funds' to do their job, simply to increase wages and benefits, while producing no more.

Only a sovereign government can declare war, establish taxes, print its own currency, and make treaties with other nations.
This is one of the reasons that the Lebanese government is on thin ice. It let Hezbollah declare war on Israel under its roof. By not responding quickly and decisively to that action, they gave Hezbollah control of Lebanon.

i don't know but i think most of the questions here are "homework" and i wish you lot on here would get on and do what we did at school.Find out by listening, reading books. You lot will be running the country soon, and half of you can't spell.
Sorry not your fault just get hacked off sometimes with the questions that people ask, when there are so many places to get the information.
