i own a repair shop, and all of them eventually break down its just a matter of time on most of them, but most of the horror stories you hear about them,is from people not keeping up with the maintenance on them real good other wise they all give pretty good service ,i think the range rover is one of the better ones out of the bunch ,but then they also cost a lot more, the new Chevy's are out now,and with a 100 thousand mile warranty on them they seem to be doing as good as anything else out there right now,,but the rovers are good i don't think you,d be spending a lot of time repairing one if you decide to buy a new one, good luck i hope this help,s.

Volvos are pretty solid. My '01 has 71k miles on the clock. I've had a few issues here and there (rack & pinion went out, passenger seat's electronics) but nothing catostrophic as the Honda-owners might have you believe.
I run it on synthetic oil w. high octane gas, so yes, I do baby it. I think it'd still run fine w.o. the TLC I give it.
One thing to consider for Volvo and Rover: parts can be pricey. There might be a 25% mark-up on a part over a comparable part on a Japanese car. Labor costs, however, are the same.

the straight up answer is YES !
I service speedometers and other guages all over the greater san francisco area and it is so true.
The specialty and general repair shops are full of these vehicles and very few asian vehicles.
I feel sorry for some of my friends who own these vehicles and they break down or give them problems all the time.
If i ever got into a crash; you bet i wish i were in a range rover , ford or a volvo. Those cars have great crash ratings compared to a lot of asian vehicles.
i hope this helps...Good Luck!

It's all a big media hype. Ignore the idiots out there preaching Toyotas and Hondas as the best cars. They may be the BEST SELLING for now. But that's only a product of everyone who's going with this trend on "bashing" North American makes. I have a '95 Crown Victoria with 345,000 kilometers on it. NOTHING done to the engine or the transmission. I have had this car since it was two years old with only 60,000 kilometers on it when I purchased it. Don't think that the Japanese makes are without their share of problems too. (example: 1998 to 2002 Honda Accord V6s with the automatic have had LOTS of transmission failures, Toyota trucks with the V6s have had more than their share of head gasket/engine failures...) They have only been good at HIDING their problems from the media. If you PROPERLY maintain your vehicle, it WILL serve you well, no matter what you drive.

All cars are about as reliable as the next. The Range Rovers are known for electrical problems, but if Range Rover is what you like then get one. It isn't that big of a problem.

its not that they always break down its that some are made poorly its basicly like this:
1-5 american cars are bad
1-10 asian cars are bad
1-15 european cars are bad
good luck
p.s. range rover is a british company but its owned by ford so it would most likly be 2 or 3 out of every 15 range rovers are bad same with volvo

So are they a good investment?...... NO car, NO brand of car is a good investment. Now I see no reason to think a Mustang as just a whiteboy car. They are nice cars or at least I like them but then for $8,000 it all depends on what you buy. A 6 cyl. that has been taken care of would be nice, A V8 that is taken car of would be a good one... but how was it driven.. a hot rod? You may get junk. So get one if you wish, but have it checked out before you buy.

We have a 1996 Ford Explorer and it has more than 150,000 miles on it. It has always been a very reliable vehicle. I think the life of any vehicle depends on how you take care of it and keep up the maintenance of it like changing the oil.
